SPRING/PRIMAVERA: Buying Fruit and Veg direct helps #Supportlocalbusiness
Posted By: The Málaga Food Guide - Gibraltar & Málaga
Torrox is a municipality in the province of Málaga in the autonomous community of Andalusia, southern Spain. It belongs to the comarca of Axarquía. It is located in the Costa del Sol (specifically the Costa del Sol Oriental), on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and the foothills of the Sierra de Almijara. The region is famed for having the best climate in Europe, which means it's sub tropical climate makes it ideal for growing produce, particularly mango's, kiwis and avocados.
We've talked to some local Torrox farmers and are now buying various seasonal fruits and veggies from different farmers at very affordable prices. For example, at the moment zucchini (courgette) is in season. We bought 2 boxes for our families for €5 .This is down to buying the ones that can barely be sold in the supermarkets or shops because they don't comply with the good enough looking rules. However, in terms of flavour they're the best!
With this initiative of supporting and buying local everyone benefits. Our families get fresh vegetables straight from the producer, for us as consumers it's much cheaper than the supermarket. Also, most importantly the farmers sell their produce and it doesn't get thrown away or wasted, and the money stays in the local area. #SupportLocalBusiness
